Global Assimilative Model of Bottomside Ionosphere Timeline (GAMBIT) is an online database of the global ionospheric weather nowcast by IRTAM 3D (IRI-based Real-Time Assimilative Model).

IRTAM 3D uses real-time measurement feeds from GIRO (Global Ionosphere Radio Observatory).

GAMBIT holds both real-time and retrospective IRTAM results.

Open-Data Guest Access to GAMBIT Database

Open data access to retrospective ionospheric weather data in display format:
: GAMBIT Explorer UserApp 1.1A

Please note versions 0.9.06 and earlier (Firebird 2.5 database) are deprecated.

Integration of GAMBIT data in research applications

Download IRTAM coefficients from LGDC to use in your investigation:
  • Manual download: giro.uml.edu/rix/gambit-coeffs/
  • URL-based scripted download:
    • Populate URL with date-time (ISO format) and name:
      • nnnn = foF2, hmF2, B0, B1
    • Please be considerate and pace download requests at 15 sec cadence
    • See Consortium agreement to acquire GAMBIT database mirror copy for fast local access to IRTAM 3D computations
  • The latest three days are not available; see GAMBIT Situation Room
  • Data model and format for IRTAM Coefficients message
  • Example IRTAM Coefficient Reader/Unpacker in FORTRAN for integration with IRI model
  • Example GAMBIT Database Reader/Unpacker in Java 8+ for integrated download of coefficients from GAMBIT database
